CHILDREN’S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION ACT (COPPA) PERMISSION & LAPTOP AGREEMENT

COPPA provides parents with certain rights and control over the information collected online from children under the age of 13. Before students (under the age of 13) may provide their name, email address, or other information online, parents must give permission for students to use the online website. Below is a list of websites used educationally for student projects where a student’s name, email address, etc., may be released to a website to setup an online space to complete assignments. Some educational resources required parental permission for anyone under 18 years of age. 


Frequently Used Websites Requiring COPPA Consent

  • Google includes GSuite for Education (www.google.com) - An online word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software used to create, store, and share files. Includes as well as Google applications such as Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Classroom, etc.
  • Canvas (www.instructure.com) - A learning management system used to share work and files with teachers and classmates.
  • RenLearn Suite - (www.renaissance.com) - An online solution used to manage and monitor children’s independent reading and math practice.
  • Additional Web Services (https://sites.google.com/clevelandcountyschools.org/its/coppa) - A list of additional Web Services used for student learning and engagement can be found on the Cleveland County Schools website.





Laptop Usage

  1. I understand the laptop is property of Cleveland County Schools and is assigned to me to use for educational purposes during my enrollment at this school. 
  2. I will use the laptop appropriately for school purposes. 
  3. I will care for the laptop assigned to me and not leave it unsupervised or in unsecured locations.  
  4. I will not loan the laptop to another individual. 
  5. I will bring the laptop to school, properly charged everyday. 
  6. I will not use the laptop near food or drinks. 
  7. I will not disassemble any part of the laptop or attempt any repairs.  
  8. I will take necessary precautions to protect the laptop while carrying between classes.
  9. I will not place stickers, drawings, markers, etc. on the laptop. I will not deface the serial number sticker on the laptop. 
  10. I understand that the laptop and its contents may be inspected at any time because it is school property.  
  11. I agree to return the laptop, charger power brick and cord, and any other accessories assigned to me when requested in good working condition.  
  12. I will follow the policies, procedures, and guidelines outlined in the CCS Responsible Use of Technology and Internet Safety Agreement at all times. 
  13. I understand CCS owned Chromebooks should never be taken to an outside computer service for any type of repairs or maintenance.
  14. I will always transport my Chromebook with care.
  15. I understand the technology User Fee is an annual, non-refundable fee of $20. (Grades 6 through 12)
  16. I understand that there will be a cost associated with any repairs required due to accidental damage per school year.
     - 1st incident:$10.00- 2nd incident: $20.00
    - 3rd incident:$30.00- 4th incident: Loss of device (Per school administration)
  1. I understand that replacement chargers cost $20.00 per incident.
  2. I understand intentional damage to or loss of the Chromebook may result in the actual repair/replacement cost and Cleveland County Schools filing vandalism charges with local law enforcement.

North Carolina Military Questionnaire

In an effort to ensure that the unique needs of military-connected students are met, Session Law 2014-15 requires the North Carolina State Board of Education/North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to collect information on military-connected students. The goal is to help accommodate these students by providing them with support and consistency when their parents are deployed, when they are transitioning between schools, and at other pivotal times during their academic career.


This mandatory collection started in the 2015-16 school year. The Session Law 2014-15 that describes this requirement can be accessed HERE.


To ensure compliance with Session Law 2014-15, please complete the following information:

Migrant Education Program Occupational Survey

The Migrant Education Program, through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, provides support and instructional services to children and families who have moved in the past three years and who have done agriculture or fishing work.
